Beefy Buttery Treats For Your Canine Friend

For a non-dog owner, i have an unusual fascination with homemade dog treats. It started last year around November, when i decided that the many dogs in my life deserved to have something to enjoy on Christmas morning along with the rest of us.
Since then i have made a variety of flavored treats in many different shapes. Perhaps its the knowledge that I will be serving this goodie to a creature that if you let them would lick dirty food off the floor; but whatever the reason, i have found the processes and ingredients of this yummy biscuit for our cuddly, furry friends very easy to experiment with. From slight changes to a completely original recipe, I find them quite enjoyable to make! This particular recipe I adapted from A Cozy Kitchen.

Beefy Buttery Treats

for the peanut butter:
2/3 C. Peanuts
41/2 Tbs Canola oil

Mix peanuts in a food processor, slowly adding in oil. pulse for about 30 sec. at a time until you reach desired consistency (i made it creamy). The results should be a scant 1/2 C. of peanut butter.

for the biscuits:
1/2 C. Peanut butter
1C. Beef Broth *
1/4 C. Honey
1Tbs. Olive oil
2C. All Purpose Flour
1C. Rolled Oats
1/4C. of Ground beef, browned and slightly seasoned with pepper

Brown the ground beef and make the broth (if your not using canned broth). Mix together the flour and oats in a large bowl, set aside. Whisk together the Peanut butter, olive oil, honey* and beef broth in a small bowl, until combined. Combine the wet and dry ingredients.
Grind the ground beef into small pieces, about 30 seconds in a food processor, mix into dough.
Knead the dough on a floured surface until dough is smooth and doesn't stick to your hands. Roll out to a 1/4 inch thick and cut into shapes using an appropriately sized cookie cutter for the size of the dog. Bake for 16-17 minutes at 350 degrees. Makes about 25 medium treats.

*use a fingertip to swipe a small amount of the olive oil into the 1/4C. to help the honey come out smoothly.
*i used a bouillon base mixed with water, to create a broth

This batch of doggy treats went to our good friends dog, B.B;

She was very appreciative! She couldn't swallow them fast enough; Seeing her waggling tail and eagerness to please, was so fun to watch and reminded me of a large part of the reason i enjoy making treats so much!!
